Lately, I've noticed that Robin's site is rather static at the moment; while we have a rather vibrant community here and on the Fan Art gallery, Robin's site hasn't changed much in the past few months. I'm wondering if anyone has some ideas that might spark interest... I'll get the ball rolling with a few of my own:

Contests - Since there really aren't enough new submissions to make doing Robin's Reader's Choice Awards all that compelling at the moment, perhaps it would be better to try a contest for new submissions instead. The form that I had in mind is that each month/2 months/6 months/whatever there would be a theme of some sort. Submissions for that theme would then be judged or voted upon and the winner would get some sort of reward like illustrations for their story by a participating fan artist or something like that. I've even got a few ideas for themes, such as The Rats in the Future, Finish an Unfinished Story, Invent the Best New Character, etc.

A reward system for unfinished stories - if an author works on/finishes their story, then there's some sort of reward at the end, such as fan art or some NIMH memorabilia or something.

Lower the barrier to entry by allowing some work-in-progress stories to be posted on a seperate area of the site; could be considered a sort of 'Writers Workshop', even. These stories wouldn't be given a listing in the main area of the site until they're completed and meet the submission guidelines.

I don't know what this is called, but maybe start a thing where someone writes 100 words of a story, and then someone continues it for another 100 words and so on.

Anyway, any thoughts? Ideas? I'd love to hear them!

Simon, I like some of your thoughts on this ,

By having new writers or someone with a story in their head, It could be like a amateur night at the comedy club, there may be no need to be perfect at this time, but we may find a jewel to be shined, where all who can help perfect the skills come in later and shave off the dreggs.

As with a story and another takes over, remindes of passing the baton, that would be interesting to see the twist and such changes that happen with each author.

Well, I`m still thinking on this, to see if I have anything to add.

GACK! Please, no! J.C.'s site is going down soon, and I don't know where else I could download the Darkest Days fic. Didn't he have a second one as well? Another thing: I like some of the raped R fics. Then again, that's just me.

One word: AWESOME!!!!!
That would so totally rock! And you can bet I'd be up for it. ;)

So, before I come up with anything, what have we got on there already? Just so I don't go on explaining about something, only to find out we already have it!

Well, the stories aren't hosted on Robin's site currently; all I have are links to his site. If you want the stories, you should probably download them, as I have no plans on putting them up on Robin's site directly. My current thinking is that the R-Rated section will go away as soon as J.C.'s site does, since he's got 2 of the 4 stories there anyway. If anyone is interested in hosting those stories or whatever, please get in touch with the authors.

Pretty much, what you see is what you get, as far as the stories go. You can comment on them and there's this forum. Other than that, there's nothing much else going on there at the moment.

I suggest having drabble challenges. (A drabble being a very short fanfic) A challenge works by posting a list of prompts for the drabbles. I can show you some examples on LiveJournal if you are interested.

That sound great! I've done this in other fandoms, and the results are always a blast. NIMH definitely needs some new fanfic!

The thought about the story of many authors is a good idea. It could be combined with a contest and a reward system.

First one story segment is added after another. After a certain time period has either passed after the start of the story or after the last time that the story was continued, only the end of the story could be added. Only when the story is ended a vote for the best contributing writer is held. The winner of the vote gets a reward and the next joined story could be started.

It is certainly easier to write down a 100-word story partition than even a short story.

That sounds cool, Is a drabble is were we are given a subject for a story and then we run with it and everybody does their version ? ( I Hope I`m not missing the point here ). :?

I think drabbles are a great idea--the author can always expand upon them later at their leisure.

BOOYAH!!!

As you can tell, I am very excited about this. :) I do have one question, though--about the blogs. When I clicked on 'your own personal blog', I was denied access. I have no idea what that's about. lishrugli If I can fix my browser (where I suspect the problem lies), then can I use my Livejournal?

I like Robin's new site and thornvalleys to!

I do have a suggestion to make:

For the accounts you could also add a favorites section (i.e. Favorite Author, story etc).

Also when you click on a story you can put something in your site that alert's the one's who review when the stories updated (like they do on ff.net).

That's about it.

P.S.

Do you have any idea on if I can read any more of NIMH: The Unauthorized Sequel? Besides the chapters that are listed on robins site?

All of the current parts to NTUS are only site. Ken Singshow was forced to give up the project when Warner Brothers (the company that owns the rights to NIMH in Japan) sent him a very nasty letter.

In the USA. Note that she did say that /in Japan/, Warner Bros. owned the rights--at least for distribution, I'd assume.
