I was meaning to repley to this for some tme now , but some thing would stop me, I just did not want to tell any one.
Yes I remember those fires, I live in Southern Califronia and if the wind blew in our way we had smoke & ash so bad that at noon it looked dark red like you was on mars or some lower plane of place.
my brother who lived in the path of this hell did not fare so well, the fires took almost all that he owned, he and his wife got out of there safely. That was all most a few years ago and time heals wounds to a point. Thank God they are doing great now !. We all recovered and keep moving on in life.

I found out that thru the years that you usally have a fair amount of control in your life, but out side forces and our inner health may fail, in other words welcome to the real world :( . But no biggie this winter we are getting tons of rain that we have not seen in years , Now the beautiful popies will grow (rare in the desert but a sight to see) I think that after some of the things that has afficted us all, life comes back in the form of the colors of the desert popies :D .

I know how you guys feel.
What happened to me only lasted for a few weeks, a month at the most, but when you're only five years old a month can seem like forever. I'm still not that fond of most children.....

Ugh...that sucks. I really hope that everything will work out for you. It's just very distressing to switch from one crisis to another :(
You'll be in my prayers tonight...

"Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
"Oh, what needless pain we bear,
"All because we do not carry-
"Everything to God in prayer."
I don't mean to offend anyone. I just appreciated that comment, and it reminded me of one of my favorite hymn stanzas.
God bless,

Not at all, Tort. In fact, you've just aroused the curiosity of a fellow believer. What hymn is that from? I'm not familiar with it...
God bless you too :)

Hehe, I had to look it up to be sure. It's titled "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," by Joseph Scriven. It has to be my absolute favorite hymn of all time.
I wish the group "Selah" would produce a version of it. Allan Hall has one of the best voices for Christian music, imho. :)
Now that I think of it, I'm not sure if that hymn is in a Catholic hymnal... Would it be? I know it's in the Baptist Hymnal. Not that that helps much.
Here's some basic information on it, along with a rather cumbersom and distracting midi sequence of the melody playing in the background... =/

May God bless you, and keep you, and may He make His face to shine upon you. :)

I'm really sorry I haven't offered any consolation. I'm guilty of not having payed full attention. :(
I can empathize with what I assume you're feeling, leejakobson. I lost my father to cancer on September 3, 1993. I was seven-years-old, and that whole comforting barrier of your parents' immortality and ability to seem unconquerable just shatters. You are most definitely in my prayers. I've heard people say no parent should have to outlive their child (and I wholeheartedly agree; that would just kill me to witness my own child dying), but I almost think it's far worse for a young child to lose one or both of their parents. It would be unfeeling of me to say I understand, because know one can understand another's suffering, but you may rest assured that you are in my prayers.
May God bless you with peace of heart and mind; may you find strength in Him in this trying time; may God comfort you in your mourning, as it is written in Matthew 5:4 - "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted"; and may God bless your mother with clean health, and if she is diagnosed, may He bless her with swift recovery.
God bless,
Tort

This has been a long break from the Thorn Valley Forum, but sickness, lots of work and fewer vacation days than planned left no time for posting with a clear head.
You and your mother are in my prayers too, Leejakobson. My own mother had cancer when I was a child but was able to get through.
A story from one of my religion teachers comes to my mind (I don´t know who has written it):
A man has died and watches with Jesus the life he has lived on Earth. He sees one set of footsteps on the ground. Jesus said: "That are your footsteps". He sees a second set of footsteps going alongside his. Jesus said: "These are my footsteps as I´m going with you". When the man sees his past life, he noticed that in the darkest hours of his life there were only one set of footsteps. When the vision ended he asked Jesus why there are not two sets of footsteps during the darkest times of his life. Jesus answered: "That is because I carried you during those times".

Your Mom sounds like a very strong woman, leejakobson. I commend her for her positive attitude.
Is it wrong for you to worry? I would hesitate to say it is. We all worry; but I would like to give you some advice. Consider the story our friend posted a bit earlier. If you ask God to carry your burdens, He is more than happy to do just that. You don't have to pray this word for word, but if you do decide to give God this burden of worry, this is how "I" usually commend them to His tireless shoulders:
"Dear God, Abba Father, I know I can't handle this [worry], but I know You can, and I give it to you, Lord. Would You please take this burden and bear it for me, because You are my rest, and without You I can do nothing. Praise be to You, Oh God. Amen."
Leejakobson, may God grant you rest in Him, and help you grow in faith, that you would better know that He can bear all burdens. May he strengthen you when you are tired, give you peace amidst turmoil, and may He above all else constantly draw you back to Him. All this in Christ's Holy name. Amen.

thank you for the advice tort. i hope you dont mind me obriviating your user name. and i know i should let god take away my worries but sometimes i feel as if i have to worry in order to care. but i know that is not the case. its just so much stress. i think i will leave a prayer "dear heavenly father, please ease the pain of me and my family, help us though these troubling times. and bless the many people who have giving us support i say this prayer in the name of jesus christ amen" you know what i do feel better.

You are quite welcome. :) Not at all; you may abbreviate it "Tort" all you like. I actually go by that normally, so you're in the green, my friend.
Ah, I can understand that. I guess I kinda feel the same way now and then. It does give us a sense of our own caring when we worry for others. I think that's a very insightful observation you made.
I appreciate the blessing, and I'm glad it made you feel better to pray. :) God be with you, my friend; and may He be your rock and your foundation, the fortress in which you hide during the gale of the storm. Amen.
