Hello fellow SON fans. I guess this is where I should introduce myself, and share my love for a certian animated film.
I am from the USA. My main interests are western classic/traditional animation, video games, music, and computers.
Through all the interests I have had, one stuck with me thoughout my whole life. Animation. Although I have zero artistic talent and can't draw to save my life, its still something I greatly admire. But one film inperticular grabs my heart and shakes it around the most, if you haven't guessed already that film is The Secret of NIMH. I really don't know what it is about it, maybe its the chracters, or the ending thats "bittersweet" as others put it. But something about this film really draws me in and makes me feel in ways I haven't before. After not watching it for a good 10+ years, I just very recently "re-discovered" it when my nephew was digging though my old VHS tapes and wanted to watch it. Of course, by the time the end credits rolled, my interest in the movie was completely revived, and I even had the same feeling of weakness from excitement that I had as a child. One character I am really fond of (and I'm sure a majority of the fandom is too) is Mrs. Brisby. This heroine is really something. She wasn't a heroine because she wanted to be, it's because she had to be. She was placed in many situations where she had to make impossible decisions. And even though all the odds were aganist her, in the end she prevailed and moved her home to saftey.
I truly feel like this movie was never given a true chance to prove itself. I wasnt alive back when it was released to theaters/video, but I have researched a lot about the film and its past. I think that if it was to be re-released in theaters with proper advertising, it would do a lot better than it did back in the 80s. I am sure that some animation enthusiasts are growing tired of all the CG animation that we have been dealing with since the mid/late-90s (Not saying that all of it is bad, but CGI was never really my cup of tea.) NIMH could be the re-rebirth of traditional animation. This masterpeice is truly one of the most vivily animated movies ever. There is only a very small select few of films that is on par with this movie. Its visuals is still jaw dropping after nearly 25 years, and its a real shame that it is overlooked and nearly forgotten. They should atleast give it a proper dvd release with extras, chapters, commentary, the works.
One last thing I would like to mention about the film that I find absoutely amazing was the music. Flying Dreams is a grade A song that fits this picture perfectly. I also loved how the background music seemed to accompany the changing moods thoughout the film, just like the colors did.
Oh..pardon me for getting ahead of myself, liThe small mouse removes his hat and bows graciouslyli my name is Thursday, and I am honored to be here. I may have said way too much for an introduction already, but if you have any questions about me, or would like to tell me about yourself, please dont hesistate to reply. Its always a pleasure to meet new friends.

Welcome to the forums. I myself recently rediscovered the film, and have absolutely fallen in love with it ever since. I agree with you, we really need a re-release of the DVD with some commentary. If I'm not mistaken, Don Bluth and Gary Goldman have repeatedly contacted MGM regarding a "special-edition" DVD, but has been turned down every time. Apparently they're "not interested". That's a shame. I would really love to hear some good commentary about the film.

That is a real shame. MGM doesn't seem to care at all about the film. Its very clear, seeing how poor of a dvd release they did. Thats very odd that they are not interested in a proper release, since from my understanding the VHS release of this film did pretty darn good.
Thank you all for the welcome! Ill be sure to stick around.

Welcome Thursday! It's nice to see a lover of traditional animation. To me animation is an art form, and while I'm okay with CG movies, I just think it's getting a litlle ahead of itself. Anyway, I hope you enjoy Thorn Valley!
