Never realized how bad the Second Movie was

God, I tried to watch the first 12 minutes of it, and I facepalmed constantly. The colors are crap compared to the first one. I dont even feel like I am watching a sequel. The characters look nothing alike. They dont even have the same voices. It's like watching a broadway musical, and then going right to kindergartner's playing the characters. It has nothing in common with the first movie. I feel like I don't even know the characters in the second movie.

The creepiness of Don Bluth is gone. It looks like happy-go-lucky crap.

yeah, it`s pretty bad, if you watched only a few minutes of it you should feel no long lasting ill effects, if you watched the whole movie I`m not sure we can help you :?

Yeah the second movie was a real load of crap. It's like IoSonoUomo stated, There is no comparison between SON and SON2. The former while not a box office winner, has become a classic in its own right while the latter has come to be regarded (and rightfully so), as a real piece of trash that's not even worthy of lining the bottom of a parakeet's cage.

Peace :D

for some reason I liked it for awhile (blushes I WAS NINE OKAY?) but i realized when I watched it when I was older (I too faceplamed a lot)

what I had liked was the IDEA of the plot: Timothy being called upon by the rats for help and trained and facing NIMH and his own brother

shame though they ruined it with bad writing ,rushing through production/'direct-to-video-itis, and enough plot holes to make swiss cheese.

It could have been a very good movie if done RIGHT. just goes to show....you can ruin a perfectly good plot. Tragic, but true.

Hey I'd be an interesting challenge to see if anyone can remake the idea into something that could work. Like better rewrite.........

The fan fictions at Robin's site are ten times better :D

Honestly given the context of the characters Martin and Timothy's roles were entirely backward from each other.

But not that it matters. I will go to my grave insisting that NIMH 2 is an unauthorized knock off. I'm really hoping that MGM follows Disney's example and apologizes for the direct to video sequel monstrosities.

I also used to like NIMH 2, before I grew up. I am mature enough to recognize its redeeming qualities now (or lack thereof).
I thought Disney's cheapquels were terrible, this is like having a very long root canal with no anaesthetic.

Can't say I ever had an interest in seeing this with all the ratings going against it. But I thought I may as well give it a chance. I found out my friend actually had an old VHS copy so I borrowed that. Only watched the first 10 mins or so. There are the obvious negatives: it is a complete downgrade from the first movie, its voice acting cast is somewhat below par, and is geared towards a much more younger audience, rather than children who are slightly older. Martin's feelings of both concern and bitter rivalry for his brother were too ambivalent from what I felt in the first scenes.

However, I'm probably gonna get some flack for this, but from what I've seen so far, the basic plot seems interesting, and I wouldn't say the animation and art is incredibly bad. Of course, it fails in comparison to the classical and gothic artistic tone the first movie had, with its in depth visuals.

I'm not really being fair on this sequel though, because I still haven't watched it a good deal through. I'll continue watching it sometime or another when I get the time and gather the enthusiasm to do so.

Dick Sebast (The director of SON2) Obviously did not have the original film in mind when making it. I'm guessing he probably wanted a softer, brighter film to appeal to really young kids.

I agree with you, IoSonoUomo. As a fan of the first Secret of NIMH, I have to say I was thoroughly disgusted by the second movie. It lacked a certain degree of Don Bluth's darkness, a decent storyline in correlation to the first movie, and animation quality (they could've at least honored us NIMH fans with similar animation and character designs). After my second face-palm, and a bit of embarrassment, I turned off the movie and threw it into the trash.

I still can find that movie in the Wal-Mart $5 bin from time to time, I just toss it back.

I too liked this movie, but again I did saw it before I saw the original. In fact I asked for it as a gift but now I went to DVD I don't want to see that again.
