Also of note: the author of that Tweet provided the voice of Martin in the good movie. Great to see the cast agrees that it is a wonderful movie.

I wonder if Shannen Doherty still looks on the film that fondly.

Interview with Wil
http://geekmonthly.com/blog/?p=148
Interviewer: For the longest time I thought your first big acting role was in Stand by Me, but fans might be shocked to learn before that you played the mouse Martin in The Secret of NIMH!
Wil: Back then I would go with tons of other kids for different roles. I went into the audition and the director Don Bluth hired me on the spot. I remember walking back to the car where my mom was and I told her, “He wants me to come back tomorrow for the job.” At that time I didn’t know that with animation they record the voices first. I was excited because I thought I could watch the cartoon while I was doing the voice. I didn’t know any better, I was probably eight or nine when I did the movie. It took forever for the movie to come out, and when I finally got to see it I remember being so upset that they drew my character Martin as really tubby, and he didn’t look anything like me! I guess I had a husky voice as a kid. (laughs)
I had read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, which is an absolutely magnificent book. It should really be required reading for nine- and ten-year-olds. That actually explains the roots of my love of science fiction, because after I read that book, I knew the author’s name—Robert C. O’Brien. So when his name was brought up again as another suggested book to read, I grabbed it. It was a book called Z for Zachariah. It’s a post-apocalyptic story about a girl who lives in a valley and there’s a global thermonuclear war. The way that the weather works in her valley, the fallout never comes in. She and her brothers and her father survive and live on a little farm. After a while they notice no one is coming into the valley anymore. So her father and brothers go to check things out and they don’t come back. Some time goes by and she sees smoke on the horizon and it gets closer and closer. And eventually this dude comes in and he’s got a radiation suit on, pulling a radiation wagon. The bulk of the story is finding out this guy is bad. It exposed me to post-apocalyptic fiction, which is my absolute favorite kind of science fiction. This stemmed from recognizing the author’s name which wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t involved in NIMH.

It was great to hear from one of the cast members of this great movie after such a long period of time. I am curious as to where he managed to see SON on the big screen after all this time and if he's aware that there has been talk (though somewhat un-productive at this point) of having this movie re-released on the big screen. I for one would love to see this happen perhaps as a thirty year anniversary tribute.
Peace :)

I doudt it. She kinda became bitter as a actriess, expecially after she quit "Charmed" and hosted that Scifi reallity show

Hold on, if he saw it "on the big screen" that means he saw it in a theater. How could that be if SON was never really reissued.
A while back I actually had an oppertunity to purchase a copy of his biography. I was tempted by my knowledge of his role in NIMH and Star Trek: TNG.

If you're referring to "Just a Geek", it's a pretty good book, but I don't think it ever mentioned NIMH specifically. "Stand by Me" seems to have been his first "hit".

NIMH was not really a box office success. It's more of a cult classic. So this is not surprising, really.

Ahhhh that's the one! Thanks. To be completely honest I didn't really expect much in the way of NIMH references. Still, it is good to hear frm the original cast.

Good to see Wil Wheaton still looks upon NIMH fondly. Outside of "Stand by Me" and "STTNG" his only other role I can recall offhand was an offbeat vampire-themed episode of the cable series "Monsters", in which his costar was a pre-"Friends" Matt LeBlanc. As for the other child actors, I've drawn a blank on Jodi Hicks (Cynthia), but Ian Fried (Timothy) has popped up on occasion, most notably in a recurring role on "St. Elsewhere" circa 1986-87, in a role described as a "problem child." Not the first time! I'm sure his memories of "NIMH" are next to nonexistent, considering his one single line.

You know I did know that the Wil Wheaton on Next Generations was the voice of martin for many years until I was able to get on The internet, then I saw it, being a big Star Trek and animation fan you would think I would put 2 and 2 to gather, but some made note of that some years back while on line :?

Good find ChrisS., some may still find it hard take that was the voice of Martin.
On the same note I bought Disney`s DVD of Bambi and on one of the extras on the DVD I found out who the voice of Bambi was I do`nt remember his name but later on after doing that he became a high ranking officer in the US Marines, when ask if he ever told his troops of his fame his response was I would never tell my troops that I was the voice of Bambi how I could still hold a status of a stable officer in the Marine, not word for word but something to that affect, after he retired he had no problem letting the world know.
