As I was watching the motion picture (based off of a game) Silent Hill I noticed that the main character, Rose Da Silva, reminds me a whole lot of Mrs. Brisby. Long story short for those who are un-familiar with the movie, it's about a woman named Rose who has an adopted young daughter who has strange visions and vague memories of an odd town called Silent Hill. As a solution to help her daughter remember these mysterious memories she decides to take them both to the town, however, when they arrive they are confronted with a shadowed figure who suddenly steps onto the road and causes their car to swirve out of control and crash which knocks Rose unconcious. When she awakes she fines her daughter missing and ventures off into the misty and nightmarish depths of Silent Hill.
Onto the reason why I made this thread, Rose shows she is a devoted mother who faces all sorts of strange creatures, mysterious and paranormal figures of both foe and ally, and dangers that thrive on the edge of madness, all to save her child's life and uncover the strange mystery that surrounds her. It all reminds me of Mrs. Brisby with all the lengths and risks she goes through on her journey to save her children. What do you think?
Also, Rose comes across a towering, silent, and guard-like figure who weilds a large blade that threatens her. It reminds me of Brutus. 8)

While I'll admit to my unfamiliarity with the film "Silent Hill" from what I've read of your review, I guess it could be said that Rose and Mrs. B. do indeed share some similarities where their personalities are concerned.

I've only heard of the name of such film. I've never seen it at all nor any trailers in a while.
But from what you're telling me, I think the moviemakers probably were on a NIMH high when they made it. Very striking similarities there.
I will have to admit that there is a lot of similarities between the caracters but that storyline had been played out over and over again. I really doubt they had NIMH in mind..

Yeah I know who he is, I just didn't figure his name really mattered, just that the rest of his features of character remind me of Brutus.

I'm not the most movie savvy person, by far, but I have seen both of these. I see where your coming from here, but honestly I put these two into completely different categories. Silent Hill was a bad twist on what happened to a real town: Centralia, PA. Though the characters do have a somewhat similar battle to fight Mrs Brisby is fighting a much more believable one.
I don't know I just seem to remeber Silent Hill as that game where they gave you a pistol and then never let you have any amunition.
Think I'll stick with books: I find fewer duds.

I would say, to an extent, Silent Hill is an involuntary very loose 'spiritual relative' of NIMH. Being that the mother characters are similar, and the fact they face something that was horrible or frightful (Rats of NIMH) that turned out to be, in fact, good.
However, I don't think they had NIMH in mind. It shares the same themes.

Pyramid Head is bad-ass! He has been one of the few characters in the game series that I enjoyed. I was at first worried that the film adaptation of Pyramid Head would be cheesy at least, but he was awesome! Especially at a specific when he kills someone, well lets just say you need to see the film and decide for your self.

Most Silent Hill fans despise the movie. Me? I think it's alright-ish. In the game, it was a father trying to find his daughter, not a mother.
Silent Hill, with all its metaphors and plot devices, would be hard to translate into movie format. So the director decided to make a monster movie featuring Pyramid Head (that's the monster mentioned in the post) because he's popular among Silent Hill fans. However, this decision backfires because fans associate Pyramid Head with James Sunderland's guilt and they took that context away from the monster
When you take away what makes Silent Hill great and make it into a monster movie about a witch cult, you piss off the fans.
I do like the idea of a mother going through hell to save their child. That's one of the reasons why I'm attracted to NIMH. It's so emotionally simple, yet few take advantage of it.
