Well guys, I have been in a fight for a "Brisby Plushie" on E-bay, 2 days to go and it is a battle we are up to 30 bucks now

I have never seen or snuggled a real one, My job gives me moola to spend, but a 12 inch Brisby ?

Is the fight sane :? , as for me till the bitter end .
Should I kick buns or what ?

Well, for starters you should resist continuing a bidding war. It only tends to get out of hand if both people -really- want the item. It's better to let the person out-bid you, then a few hours/minutes/seconds before the auction ends, put in a substantial bid. Namely the most you're willing to spend, depending on how badly you want the item.

As long as the other bidder thinks he's winning for the moment, he won't likely raise his bid. Which is good for you, because you can sneak in a bid and avoid a bidding war.

As for whether it's worth $30, that ultimately is up for you to decide. Kind of hard for someone to tell you if its worth the money to you or not. As you're the only one qualified to make that decision. ;)

21-11-2006 10:48:20

I see your point Xavier, I`ll lay low till then, I`m not to keen on biding, great info, I have not bought much thru E-bay, some cels and books things like that.
I remember my room mate did just that, in the last seconds of a bid he was on the computer to lay the last bid.

I've got one of those. Plus (y'all are gonna' hate me fer this) Three smaller versions and a small Jeremy. ;) I'd say it's worth it, yeah, but I agree with Xav; in the end, it's totally up to you on how much it is worth. :) And yes, bidding at the last moment is a good idea. ;)

placing a very high bid with a few moments left? I think there's a term for that. I think it's called sniping.

I'm not sure if she has a name, but she's the lead singer in that "Let Me Be Good To You" song from the Great Mouse Detective.

Jayn

You should rent the movie, a 1986 classic .
She has no name, but we as fans just call her Miss Kitty (she is a mouse),

Well the movie isn't well known, it was made by Disney about the same time NIMH came out.. I think it was their way of saying you made your mousie movie so here's ours.. Of course4 they discard it as a bad movie becuse it has some adult content in it..

I just purchased the movie over iTunes and watched it for the first time. It really is a wonderful film, although I definitely like Secret of Nimh better. My biggest complaint about The Great Mouse Detective is the villain, which is ridiculously one-dimensional compared to Jenner. That's pretty typical of a Disney film, though. I can't remember a single Disney film that had a decent villain. The musical numbers were also pretty bad. I just hate musicals, frankly. One of the things I love so much about Nimh is that it isn't a musical. I always found that musical songs in films really just get in the way of the story. The whole scene with the dancers in the bar is cute, at least.

Anyway, sorry for going so off topic. I just wanted to share my opinion of the film, now that I've seen it. :)

I know what you mean, most song and dances can take up to 25 mins in a short animated movie and the storie line gains nothing.
The scene with Miss Kitty is great, and I wish that was the only song in the movie.( just something to hear while they where casing the waterfront bar).
I think the best Disney villain was that witch in Snow White.
As far as "Ther Secret of NIMH" no one has come close, "The Lion King" almost did.
Well anyways guys I won the Brz pushie, tho her whiskers look bad I think that can be fixed. But I will soon add her to my collectables page (NIMH junk) on my site. and also she will be hanging around at my house forever !! Sorry Nimhster

...that's just creepy. I remember that movie, and I always remember getting the willies during that trashy girlie mouse can-can scene. Even as a young child seeing heavily over-anthropomorpized over-effiminated animals portrayed in an erotically suggestive fashion such as that always gave me the willies and made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I have to wonder how that sort of imagery affects most children, especially as they develop their sexuality later on. Do you think these kinds of films breed zoophiles? From what I've heard things like that cartoon animal Robin Hood film with that super-foxy maid Marian are what first brought about prurient interest in the furry genera.

I wouldn't call it 'trashy', really. It's just all in fun, after all. Even though the film may have been targeting children, it was made by adults - and so you have some adult humor in there as well. Personally, I can appreciate that. I don't think it's creepy at all. It's just human. Having said that, you can definitely over-do it. I believe Don Bluth once talked about this... I don't remember his exact quote, unfortunately, but he talked about how some of the most artful and intriguing things artists want to add to films are sometimes very dark and illicit. It's all about balancing it out in such a way, that you can add these things, without upsetting your target audience. I think "The Great Mouse Detective" did that quite well. Secret of Nimh certainly did a good job there also.

In the end, it's just a cartoon. Don't take it so seriously. :)

Speaking of which, is it not primarily Simon's place to give out warnings about impending thread locking? If Simon feels its nearing a place where it needs to be locked, I'm sure he will say something. He tends to be pretty forgiving when it comes to locking threads. I'd say the -only- one qualified to offer such warnings is Simon. ;)

I guess I'd better weigh in on this.

To Cedric and everyone else: Xavier and I are the moderators on this board. If you see something that doesn't look right, let us know via private message or email. Keep in mind that I keep a close eye on the forum and I see every post made here. If I feel that something is going wrong, I'll most likely put a stop to it before you even notice it. That said, I appreciate your concern. I'm not so much worried about off-topicness here in General Discussion. I may step in on a thread that's straying from its original topic but only in certain cases. And don't worry, Cedric, I know you meant well.

In any case, please leave the moderating in the hands of the moderators, and contact us directly if you have a concern. You may also consider contacting other posters directly through the private message system, if you'd like.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Another Brisby plush has appeared on ebay. I already have 2, one with a tag, so I don't need to go after it :)

There seems to have been a handful of them lately.

$30 isn't too much. Getting to $50 is a little overboard as there will always be another one to go after. And I've managed to get 2 over time from $13-$20 and a mini Brisby.

See:

I think they are real, but no way to tell. But at $5 each it's not like you have anything to lose.

Are you looking at the Brisby cel of her looking up at the Stone, or the medicine part?

I've seen the stone one relisted here:
http://www.animationartgallery.com/SNCCCD5.html

Don't worry, I won't go after any of those, I've seen SeaSideArt for some time. Though, my heart just about dropped when they had an amazing cel of Brisby at the end of the movie with her hands wrapped, just a wonderful closeup with her smiling. I took too long and it disappeared. :(

If you are not sure the cel will last, though those have been there a while, you can always try to make a deal and layaway, so you can pay some now and more over time, to hold the cel for you. Oh, and atleast double check they have it still.

OH WAIT? You say you live where that store is and can see that stuff in person?

Yeah, Ive been there before. I havent been there since I was a NIMH fan though. They have more than what they display on their website, and I remember seeing one or 2 other NIMH cels that were never displayed on their site. I'm planning on driving up there this weekend and looking around, so If I find any gems that they dont have up, Ill be sure to take a pic of it with its price.

I'm interested in the medicine one. Its so rare that you see her happy, so those types of cels are worth more to me, and Im willing to pay a little more for them.

That website sure does have some good Brisby cels. I think Im starting to become more of a Mrs Brisby collecter than a NIMH one

Just set it to Bluth for Studio, then All Types for type, hit search and you should see it. I ordered that Mouse Detective cel from there, and I believe that price includes shipping and tax. It would look better with a background though.

Wow, so many great finds.

That cel that you have TimothyB is perfect, one of the best cels Ive ever seen. I hope to aquire something just as good one day. Hopefully they will still have that Brisby cel at seasideart when I go check it out.

No t too long ago, I was looking at a Jenner cell on ebay. I wanted it so bad, but I couldn't afford it. :P Here's the image:

I'd have to say, I'm much, much more a Jenner fan than a Brisby fan. Though when it comes to cells, it doesn't matter who I like better, I'll never be able to afford it.

Cool! Though I still couldn't afford it. Granny wouldn't go for it, unfortunately. :P Thanks for the help, though! :D
