I know that this thread may be off-topic so to speak, but I just thought that I would give you the opportunity to express your feelings concerning the tragic death of Steve (The Crocidile Hunter) Irwin. According to what I've heard over the radio, he was killed by a Stingray while filming a documentary in Australia. The stinger pierced his chest and the poison went directly to his heart killing him. I know that those of you who may have watched his show on the Discovery Channel may not have been pleased with his so called "cowboy antics", but you have to admit that to go out in this manner is still a horrible way to go.
Also, lets not forget the message that he tried to impart during each and every one of his shows. That we should care for and show some compassion for even the lowliest of creatures. That all of us are connected and therefore depend on one another in this great web of life and that to sever even one link in the chain could have serious ramifications that may not be able to be undone.
Peace :(

:( I didn't know that happened! It was today too! He had a family going already and once I went to the comcast home page, it said the same thing on how he was killed. Especially today and they announced it. :(
Rest in Peace Steve Iwrin.....

I couldn't believe it myself (which is typical, considering I heard it from my lying little brother). When I saw the article on Yahoo.com, I felt like the world had ended without me. We have lost one of the greatest men in the world. And Steve, if you can hear this, I give your family the best of wishes to go on despite your tragic loss.
Oh you were a fan too Cedric.. I'm sorry..

Hi,
I was a big fan of Steve Irwin, and was devastated when I heard the
news this morning.
I have created a new discussion group in honor of the 'Croc Hunter' Steve
Irwin, at:

See you there...

i felt the same way it is sad. but i am not sure it was so horrid a way to go i mean think about it he died doing the thing he loved the most teaching about animals. he knew it was going to happen one day but it meant so much to him that he did not care. i will pray for his family for god to be with them in their loss. but i am not sure i would call the way steve erwin died a horrid way to go

Even though it was sad to read about it, I found it ironic he was not killed by what he usually work with. Crocs and snakes. A short tailed stingray. The ocean was the last place i'd expect The Crocodile Hunter to be filming a wild-life show in. Still it is sad to hear that he has passed on. :(

I'm going to feel bad for his wife and daughter. :(
He had died on what he liked most.
Your in a better place now Steve Irwin. :|

Croc #1: Let us take a moment of nonviolence to honor our savior, Steve Irwin, who selflessly threwhimself in our sights to help us. Who was struck down in a rare stingray attack. May he rest in peace.
Croc #2: We owe Mr. Irwin more than our lives. He opened the humans' eyes to the fact that we, like many other 'dangerous creatures' are really misunderstood. I wish his family the best of luck in making it through the tough times ahead.
Gator #1: I'm sure going to miss him.I wish there was something we could do for his family in return for his efforts to help not only us, but countless other creatures as well. I just hope that wherever he is, it is just as wonderful as this world.
Croc #3: He died showing everyone the truth about us. There will never be another one like him in another million years.

It is still a shock to me, somehow I think he will do his next show soon, But he`s gone, and very young too.
He had a "wildfire" effect on people in his love for animals and wildlife.
At times I thought he was a bit to daring, but his message was clear.
I will miss this great man, who at times seemed he could talk to the animals. tho the animals at times would seen to bite back.

Okay, no offence to anyone, and I do feel for his family's loss, but, I heard this while at MFM, and my first thought was "About time." Why? because I've seen his show. In my opinion, it would be better off named "The Animal Bothering Show." The guy might have done a lot of good things for awareness, but he was reckless and stupid.
I have been saying for years that he was going to get himself killed by an animal, be it some freak thing, or during a shoot somewhere. He may have had a love of wildlife, but from what I could tell, he lacked respect for it, which is a dangerous combination.
If you want a MUCH better 'wildlife' show (IMO), check out "The Jeff Corwin Experience" same love of wildlife, with more respect.
Anyway, feel free to send me nasty emails now. Just no flaming here in the forums.
I heard the news just the other day, though my family feels deep sorrow for the guy, all I can say is "Hmm, it was bound to happen." and was the least affected by this. I mean, I was never a fan of his shows so even though I feel sorry for his family, I just...really don't care as much as anyone else. Not to be disrespectful of course, but like Xavier, I feel that the guy was careless and bit too rough in is encounters with animals and therefore such an event was going to happen sometime.
On another note, my sister, whom has been a long-loving fan of Steve since....ever, has now decided to set yet another goal in her life and that is being the next Steve Irwin. She loves animals and says she'll be more careful and take more patience and care with her animal observations(if any, that is...).

I can't believe you heartless people. Steve was a wonderful man who did what he had to do to get his message across. I saw a small speech given by him on the Discovery Channel last night. He said that the reason he was put on this planet was to open everyone's eyes to the truth about animals. And I believe that though he has died at the peak of his career, he had already succeeded in doing just that. He has made us realize that even the animals we hate most have a right to live and a reason to exist.
Consider yourselves lucky I don't know your e-mail addresses. Otherwise, I'd be sending you some pretty mean stuff. Sure, he took risks, but not taking chances will lead to a boring life, like mine.
You have been told. If you can't say anything nice about poor Irwin, keep your thoughts to yourself.

Something I have to keep saying again and again. Look, not to be rude or anything, he had died what he liked doing MOST. I respect that. :P

Hey, I never said he -deserved- to die, or that I -wanted- him to die, just rather that I saw his death coming. Nothing more, nothing less. The only thing I didn't know was when, and what animal was going to get him. Sure he accomplished his goal, and I commend him for that. However he was still reckless around such animals that could do some serious harm in the blink of an eye. It was only a matter of time before it happened. I saw it coming for years.
So thank you, but I think calling me 'heartless' for -only- calling fault on his precautions is a bit... unfair? Recklessness is the same as stupidity in this case, IMO. I never once contested how 'wonderful' or 'noble' he or his deeds were. Just that I foresaw that his recklessness and lack of respect for these powerful creatures -was- and ultimately -did- come back to bite him, almost literally.
As for knowing my email, there's a little 'email' button below this, and every post I've made. If there's something you want to say or discuss, I invite you to do it via email, rather than here. Flame wars aren't tolerated on these forums.

This thread has been locked. It's only tangentially related to NIMH, and seems to have engendered a completely unnecessary dispute in its short lifetime.
In any case, I never saw any of Steve Irwin's shows, so I have no idea what he's like, so quite honestly, I don't care much more than I care about the death of others that I don't know or that are unrelated to me. To me, it seems like this is getting the publicity it is, solely because 1) he's famous, and 2) he died doing what he got famous for.
But, condolences to his family and such. I'm sure he was a good man.
