I know that this may not necessarily be NIMH related, but I was curious about this particular subject just the same. In the "Ice Age" movies (both 1 & 2), what sort of animal is the acorn chaser supposed to be? Is he/she supposed to be some sort of primative rodent?

Looks a primative squirrel ?, that`s what he looks like to me.
He also needs something to calm him down a bit 8)
I think it's supposed to be the ancestor to a squirrel and a rat. Hence the name "Scrat." I'd imagine the animaters at Fox took some liberty with the design, adding the elonated canines and long muzzle, not to mention the bug eyes. He is pretty funny, though.

I think they mentioned Scrat's origins in one of the extras of the first 'Ice Age' movies DVD. Can't recall exactly where though.
Scrat indeed rules. Best part of the entire movie IMO. At least the first movie anyway.
I am personally more interested in seeing 'Over the Hedge' more than 'Ice Age 2' :D
