Got me , Simon :o was Timothy`s take over a part of April`s fool?? I did not think you would give your site up with no fight.
BTW, Timothy as per NIMH2 would make a sucky host for a site.

Hey Jonothan,

Let me know what your opinion is after you've seen this movie. But do me one favor; Please watch the original SON as well. This way you'll get an idea of what quality animation is all about.

Peace :D

Here's my personal opinion about NIMH2.

The bad stuff is that it's kinda off compared to the original. I mean overall The Secret of NIMH is a pretty serious movie. The colors used are overall dark and mysterious. (I've heard about colors used in movies before. It's quite interesting BTW.) The whole theme of NIMH2 is exact opposite from the original. It's really bright and corny. And I take points off for its bad animation. They could of done better. One example is the scene where Jeremy and Timmy pass through some hills (or whatever they were) and get into Thorn Valley. If they want to zoom in, they should have zoomed in with animation. Not by actually zooming in one picture :x .

This is not exactly a good part but I'd say it's a major part of my impression towards the sequel. It's kinda hard to explain but the movie pays SO MUCH attention to Jonathan, that it's quite interesting in my opinion. When I here characters talking about Jonathan (especially Evil Martin for some strange reason). I imagine Jonathan from the original. It makes me think the way they use Jonathan as a bridge for the two movies is interesting (not exactly a good way but not a bad way either).

say there's a quote : "My father came from NIMH" (by Evil Martin)
The idea of evil Martin being the son of Jonathan is so unusual and it gives a weird ("interesting" is not exactly the word come to think of it) impression.

The fact that "Hero" (the word that is used the most often) and "Hiro" (the name of my NIMHmuck character) are pronounced the same way is not weird but indescribable (it gives a complicated feeling.) Poor Hiro would have been teased because of his name if he were in Thorn Valley in the sequel.

People would make fun of me for writing so much about the movie that everyone hates (I have actually had people tell me that I pay too much attention to it or something similar)but actually, I personally have things to think about the sequel mainly because of how different it is from the original.

To Jonathan:

You poor thing. The Evil has already begun its slow corruption of your soul.

I'll be serious for a moment. here's the deal:

MGM's Nimh 2, in all seriousness, is like a slap in the face when you compare it to the original. A lot of what was established in the original and what made it what it was has been completely thrown out the window. Remember the enigma that was the Stone from the original film? It's gone. No mention of it in any shape or form, as though it never existed. Whether or not people liked its inclusion in the original, to just 'forget about it' is kind of lazy. Many of the characters have gone through some horrid changes.

Cynthia, who used to be cute as a button, looks like she's gone through an Eric Cartman complex. Auntie Shrew, who despised and bore no trust with the rats is suddenly, drunkenly singing their praises, speaking of some prophecy that 'The Great Nicodemus' fortold. Make up your mind, lady! Brutus, once known for his intimidating presense, is now little more than a dimwit who bares no resemblence to the original. As much respect as I have for the guy that provided his voice, this was just a bad movie for him.

The rats in general seem to be dumbed down greatly. Thorn Valley, meant to be a safe haven hidden from the eyes of humanity, is instead little more than a miniature city set right in the middle of the open. They might as well had put a big sign out that says 'here we are, come get us!' Their ways of solving certain problems lacks a sense of intelligence. Apparently, if you're ever being attacked by a big, mean dog, all you have to do is toss crackers at it....

One nostalgic thing about this film would be Arthur Malet and Dom DeLuise, the Voice Actors for Mr. Ages and Jeremy respectively, both of whom return for the sequel. It was nice hearing them do their voices, but the film doesn't do them much justice. Mr. Ages, while still decent, just doesn't seem like Mr. Ages. Dom DeLuise does what he does best, but even Jeremy's been watered down. As for Nimh itself, what should be an institute has all of a sudden become a Gothic, Transylvanian-esque castle that just so happens to be smack dab in the middle of the city.

The supporting characters are quite frankly a joke. The Nimh scientists are using butterfly nets to try and catch the mice. Dr. Valentine looks like a typical mad scientist/Doc Brown ripoff. There's little I could say that would properly describe how bad the two city cats Muriel and Floyd are. Dragon would eat them both for lunch. I'm not really sure if I should mention Cecil, Jeremy's new friend who happens to be a caterpiller that looks COMPLETELY out of place next to the other characters. Then of course, there's.... 'Evil Martin'.. I won't go into details, but if you do watch this movie, you'll see what I mean.

If that doesn't scare the sense into you, then maybe this will... Timothy is played by The Karate Kid.... And he sings... You've been warned.

The only supporting characters that are passable are The McBride family, with Jenny being the main focus. Jenny primarily keeps the plot moving, as its her situation that leads Timothy, and eventually the others, into returning to Nimh. The idea isn't a bad one but it can't save the film. The climax at Nimh is semi-decent, but looks as though it's ripped right out of a Die Hard movie.

As many bad things that I've said, there's really not much good I can say about it. It doesn't help that the movie is also a generic musical, made at a time where animated musicals were being force-fed to the public on a daily basis. Some movies work well as musicals, but this isn't one of them. Some might say that I'm being biased because I'm comparing it to the original, and admittedly, I can see why one might say that. On a good note, for a child, this movie might be entertaining, and something to keep their attention for about an hour and a half. I can see that this was made to be more of a kids movie, given the original's darker elements, but given how it misrepresents the original film and even the novels is what I believe is the reason that a lot of people just don't like it.

As I said in another post on here: If you're going to watch this, then be ready to lower your expectations. Don't let The Evil take you.
