NimhMUCK: A couple questions

About a week ago, I downloaded something called 'MuckClient' onto my laptop, but now I don't know how to get into NimhMUCK: could someone help me out? Do I need to register at nimhmuck.com as well? I noticed that to access the forums, one needs a username and password.

Here's what you do.

First go to "Session" and then go to "New Session"
After that In the "Host or IP address" type
galaxyport.net

then on the "Post" type
4567

If you want to log in as a guest type
connect guest guest

If you want a character, type @request

or if you have questions type
wizzes

and see which wizard is online. Then ask for help.If you want to page then type
page 'wizz's name'='Message' without the 's.

(Are my instructions correct? I hope they are.)

No, you don't need to register at NIMHmuck.com to access the muck itself. NIMHmuck.com registration is only if you want to post on the forum or comment on stuff.

And yes, HolyArrow, your instructions are correct, except that you misspelled 'Port' as 'Post' ;)

I'm so confused. Every time I type something, anything, it brings me back to the main-page of the muck. At least, I think it's the main-page. The one that gives you all the basic options. I'm so stuck. :?

Okay, I think I've figured out a bit. My username and password don't work yet. Do they get admitted by the wizards before you can use them?

Yes, a wizard has to approve your character application before you can use it.

Here's the deal. Type 'connect guest guest' at the screen you get when you log in, then after you're logged in as a guest, type '@request' to begin the character request program. After you complete that, a wiz will look at your application and if everything's in order (usually not a problem), they will create the character for you and send you an email notifying that your character's been created. After that you'll log in with 'connect <playername> <password>'.

And guess what? The man was right! I really appreciate it, Simon. I should have just kept on going. I think I had confused my membership to the NIMHmuck site (thinking of that username and password) as related to the actual muck. No wonder my username and password didn't work! But that's all fixed now, and I thank you. Life can continue normally now. :wink:
