Hey Whiskers,

Congrats on your 50th birthday. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one in my age bracket that still enjoys quality animation such as SON. I don't normally do this, but I will confess to you and others out there who have access to this forum that in September, I myself will turn 50. When I saw "The Secret of NIMH" for the first time back in 1982, I was just weeks away from my 26th birthday. My how time flies :) :)

I love it NIMHmaniac, How time does fly, and great classics as "The Secret of NIMH" will never go away,

But we old timers are not alone in our love for great stories and animation, the oldest so far is my on line friend Kat she is 54 and she has made a beautiful site on all animation, on her forum there is two more who are older than me, and we talk about stuff that the young ones would say huh? what was that?, I never saw it .

My dad, if he lived till now may have been the oldest fan,
On saturday mornings me and pop would get to see the toons in the 1960`s, his favorite was "The Bugs and Road Runner show " and we would enjoy walt Disney`s wonderful World of color when Walt was still alive..
But as I grew up, I found out about my Dad`s love for Max and Dave Fleischer`s stuff, Gulliver`s Travels, 1940`s Superman, popeye and the WB animation, just as us today brag of Don`s work.
Never to old , my Dad, John N. Sayer RIP, 1925 to 2000.
He has seen a part of the brith of animation and was my pal :D

Well, Secret of NIMH turned 24 this year, and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH turned 35! Actually the anniversary was March 1, i think... heh, i'm terrible with birthdays XD

i have a t-shirt made for the 25th anniversary that a friend gave me back in 2001 or so... i kinda feel like making a 35th anniversary t-shirt or something to go along with it. Plus, after 10 years, that old shirt is getting just a bit worn-out :) Maybe time for a new one... Hmm.. lipondersli

I know, the book is very old, I wonder how old Robert C O'Brien is.

Sadly O'Brien passed away not long after Mrs. Frisby was published, in 1973 or 74, i believe. He was born in 1918! Before writing children's lit, he worked for National Geographic, among other magazines. i have a few of his articles; they're quite good.

i often wondered what he'd have thought of the movie... i think it remained true enough to the book that he at least would've appreciated it. Not to mention what he'd have thought of his daughter's sequels Racso and R-T and Margaret, which he did NOT authorize or even know about and which clearly violate so many of O'Brien's intentions (which is why i don't regard them as "true" sequels to the book). Hmm. Sad, too, that he only had a chance to write 4 books, because he was a brilliant author :(

Got to agree with ya there A-9, most NIMH fans have at lest the movie and O'Brien`s first book under their belts, If O`Brien had live on it would something to see how and at what course he would take the story further.
