Holy smokes!

Now that is amazing. Not to mention that the image of this critter looks cute as a button.

I wonder what they will call this thing in terms of a "common name"?

That is something else,

It`s like a rat, but not in some ways , the thick non rat tail and longer snout. you know there is so much we do not know about our world yet. :?

Even tho man may rule, for the most part he does not take notice of what is underfoot in the animal world., only those who care to look will find them. :)

Cool! A pity there isn't an actual photo of the wee beasty. Not even Google returned any image hits aside form the sketch in Simon's link. It is amazing how we can still keep finding new things about the world we have lived in for so long. StillÂ… nice to see a long lost cousin of the rats. Last one to include one in a fanfic is a rotten egg! Coming soon from ProcorpÂ… "The Rats of NIMH: Adventures in Thailand."

That's awesome! Always cool to hear about new kinds of rodents. And you're right Whiskers, man thinks he rules, but I find it a bit ironic that they don't even know -what- they claim superiority to until they trip over it.

Scientist A: Oh my goodness! I think you just found a new species of insect!

Scientist B: I did? Where is it?

Scientist A: You're standing on it....

To Procyon & Tzolkin,

It is important to remember that no matter how long it seems that we as a species have inhabited this planet, in terms of geological time, we are but a blip on the radar screen and nothing more. Other life forms (notably the insects with whom we claim superiority over), have been on this planet for far longer than we. They outlived the dinosaurs, and for all practical purposes, will outlive us. We've placed ourselves on such a high pedestal which IMHO is foolhardy at best. I truly believe that we were put on this planet earth as caretakers, NOT masters of all we survey. Unless something really drastic occurs to alter our current way of thinking, I sadly predict that we as a species may not be long for this world. We would become just another footnote in the grand scheme that is known as the history of this planet and the universe beyond...
