I just got a tablet and was testing Painter's tracing and cloning ability. I had a pic of Brisby on my desktop pulled from a NIMH slide ebay auction so I grabbed that for practice.

The way it worked, you open two windows, each the same size, one has the original image, you set that for the clone source, then in the other window you hit the trace button. You'll then see what you set for as clone 50% faded in your window, like you have tracing paper over it.

I then grabed the clone tool, which instead of tracing, it actually draws back in the image, so if I pressed real hard on my tablet pen I'd just be cloning the image over. But I did it lighter to capture some of the brushes grain and painted effect, I also pushed harder in some areas to plan for shading.

So after that I'm left with a soft edged faded blurry image. I then I drew the lines back in, not tracing, but just looking at the original on the other side of my screen. Then some manual shading with different colors using the acrylic brush.

Here's sort of a timelapse, I should have saved extra more often for a better animation:

Here's a timelapse from another drawing test that I spent more time on, it has a lot more individual changes:

The final from that timelapse above is located here:

I also wanted to comment on maybe creating a sticky art thread. That way everyone can subscribe to it and when someone posts art we'll all get a notice.

Wow! That's absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing that with us!

I'm not precisely sure what you mean by that. Do you mean create a seperate forum for art postings or just make a thread (like this one) sticky so that it doesn't fall off the page eventually? In what way would that help rather than just posting a new thread?

Again, thanks for the art! Let me know if you'd like it posted in your Fan Art section.

Yeah, a sticky thread so it doesn't fall off the page and people can post art there That way people will get a quicker response from those that have already replied or posted art there themselves, rather than starting over with a new thread waiting for people to casually check for new stuff or possibly even miss it. So it would be good for those who post art and for everyone else who wants to know right away of an art posting.

Sure, I'd like it in the Fan Art section, even with the timelapse. Though, there needs to be a fix on the site. When you updated my name from Ravepro to TimothyB it wasn't changed in the left menu. So when people click Ravepro, it does nothing, so no one would know about TimothyB unless they scrolled down to find it.

Thanx

Okay, that's easy enough to do... but still, I'm wondering exactly how that helps to have a quicker response--new threads/posts are marked in the forum already, so if you're logged in it's pretty easy to see what the new stuff is. The two possibilities that I see for why you'd want to have it this way is if one wants to be able to use the "Notify me when a reply is posted" feature to see new art as it comes in, and to make it easier for people who aren't logged in to see when new art is posted. Technically, the forum RSS feeds[=http://www.thornvalley.com/commons/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84]forum RSS feeds help to alleviate notification problem, however, you do have to wade through the non-art stuff as well.

I have a similar problem with the Art Gallery itself, as well. Currently one can only know about updates via email by having a login--something I currently restrict to people that have upload access to their gallery-- or by checking it periodically. I'm still trying to figure out what the best course of action in those regards would be. I could open up registrations so that anyone can log into the Gallery, and I can even make it so that people that do that aren't automatically given upload access, but are allowed to access the notification features of Gallery... however, that does mean that I have two seperate and distinct login systems for my site, which seems redundant. Thoughts?

Whoops. That's what I get for using about 3 or 4 different systems to manage things here on Thorn Valley. Anyway, I fixed that link and uploaded the new art. Thanks for pointing that out.

Tim , Mrs brisby= I like the texured way it is done .

Ms Sawyer =Well all I can say is I like it, that the art is "SOFT TO THE TOUCH" The fur and hair is almost like you touch it.

I have looked at some coloring pads just to see what thay are , Is this a greater vers. of it or some thing I have not seen yet?
:? This is still all new to me on how it all works.

I bought a Wacom drawing tablet, their Graphire 3 series. They have many sizes, I chose the 6x8 inch drawing area.

Here it is:
http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=308559&pfp=SEARCH

They have a more advance series called the Intuos. At the same size it was $130 more than the Graphire3, so I skipped it. Though, at first I thought it was just dolled up, better software package, and double the sensitivity, but now I just read it has angle sensitivity, which could be really cool. The more you angle the pen as you draw it would effect the brush shape.

Here's the Intuos:

Since I'm just a beginner I think the Graphire3 will be fine.

If your thinking of one Wacom is pretty much the best and only one to get. There are cheap $40 tablets, like at compusa, but probably no where near the quality of a Wacom and software package.

Thanks TimothyB for the imformation and the links, looks the one you have is still a great art tool .

But in my judgment there is a lot of your own artistry also in those pictures.

Thanks for sharing them with us . :D

I have a Wacom intous II 6x9. Those things are absolutely awesome and a neccessity for Computer art. If you can afford the steep price you'll have a powerful art tool. One of the features that I like is that you can slip a piece of art under the cover that you would like to trace and trace it directly onto the screen. They're pressure sensitive also.

By the way, that's an awesome piece of work. The Cute-o-meter is about off the scale. Great color work.
