Traditional animation on TV.
Wow, for a cartoon of Nickolodeon, this has to be the BEST animation on a cartoon TV series ever! By the way, no, this not an anime, these are real American artists.

Looks pretty cool... although I'd say that it's drawn in the style of Anime, regardless of who animates it. :) I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

I know, I just said that not to arouse any confusion. When this thing came out, alot of people assumed it was a genuine anime, as in it-came-from-Japan type of anime.

This looks like something to check out. :)
I agree, it does have a anime style and it seems to have a japanese folklore type story also. I can see why it could be mistaken for anime from Japan.

At first the harsh pans, front stiff views and blurry backgrounds made it look like an old Sega CD RPG with Anime in it, like Lunar. Though, after those few segments and the action started it looked like a regular show, I was blown away.
So where did you hear american artists did this? I want to show it to a friend and he won't believe that, he'll assume it is an american show but hired a studio in japan to animate it.
I'll be looking forward to it.
I got info from this webisite:
http://www.cineme.org/avatar.phtml
"Avatar is Created By.Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartinoBryan was an Assistant Director on Mission Hill and King of the Hill and Mike was a Director on King of the Hill, Family Guy and Mission Hill."

That was more just who created it, but they could have still sent the animation process overseas. I guess we'll find out for sure in it credits.

South Korea tends to be a place that does a lot of inbetweening (animation between keyframes) when they farm stuff out.

February 21st, 2005 at 7:00pm, according to TV Tome. They also say it's an hour long episode (2 part) and will be repeated at 8:00pm.
I just finished watching the premeir, and I must say, it was pretty awsome. The animation was well-done, it didn't overreact with anime expressions or anything (well there was a few but very little), and the story seems to have hooked me in, and I hope to see more of it this Friday. Yes, definiatly unlike Nick's other cartoons.
Well, did anyone else see it? If so, what might you think of the show?

Rats!! (no offense) I missed the premeir :( , but I was able to see that it has also gotten good reveiws at the A.L. animation forum. I missed it but also wish to see it next showing.

Drat! I am late once again.. Looks to be somewhat interesting. I might check it out if time permits. One thing I'm left wondering though is: what's with the blue arrow on Aang's head? Does it mean something? Hmm.. Maybe I should check it out, if only out of curiousity.

Well he is an airbender (one who can control air at will), and I guess since air blows in different directions he has little arrows on his hands and head which glow whenever he airbends.
By the way, you can catch this show every Friday evening, you're going to have to check TV listenings for exact time, I suggest TV Tome.

He 'waterbends' too, huh? That is sounding like a disguised form of TK (telekinesis). Probably because the current state of pop-culture seems to harbor a resentment towards 'psychic' phenomenon. I am really gonna have to check this out now.

Well the story goes that once the nations of firebenders, airbenders, earthbenders, and waterbenders once lived together in peace until the Fire Nation attacked world-wide, leading to a war between all nations. However their exist one bender that masters all 4 elements of waterbending, firebending, earthbending, and airbending known as the Avatar, but has disappeared. As the story goes, it turns out that Aang was supposed to be the next Avatar, but he doesn't want to be nor does he know how to master any of the elements. His powers only seem to work when he's extremely angry, but that's the reason him and his friends are on the quest to master them all and stop the war.

yeh thats the story but his Aangs powers also seem to kick in when he is in other stresses and not just anger. it is my opinion that they only activate uncontrolably when he is under extreme preasure mental or physical preasure.
Well guys, it turns out I was wrong, this isn't american-made animation, it's Korean, and a studio named Ghibli, which is said to be the Disney studio of the East, made it all possible. I just found it out.
Sorry for my random judgement, but hey, it's well drawn and animated right?

Yeah, Ghibli is the Disney of japan, or more say that Hayao Miyazaki (spelling) is the Disney of japan, and Ghibli is the studio he uses. Which is responsible for Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky aka Laputa, Totoro, Nausicaa, Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service and so on, (not all directed by him)

Spirited Away was an enjoyable film, not as epic as Mononoke and others. I have the Cat Returns movie in my Block Buster online rental queue. I've heard it's good. I mostly showed interest in it because of it's semi relation to another film by Ghibli called Whispers of the Heart. Which is about a girl that follows a cat to a shop, which I think is in this other film, and also writes a book with a cat character based off a figure found at the shop, which is the orangish cat with a hat.
Here's the Whispers movie:
http://nausicaa.net/miyazaki/mimi/
And a page for the cat returns:
http://nausicaa.net/miyazaki/neko/
quote from above page: "Based on Neko no Danshaku, Baron (literally "Baron, the Cat Baron") by Aoi HIIRAGI, the movie follows Muta (the fat cat in Whisper of the Heart) and Baron (also from Whisper) as they set out to rescue a young girl named Haru who has wandered into the world of cats."
Also, check out Miyazaki's new film Howl's Moving Castle. There should be links to trailers:
http://nausicaa.net/miyazaki/howl/
And now a page with all the films done by Ghibli:
http://nausicaa.net/miyazaki/films/
When the Cat Returns was released they aslo put on dvd Nausciaa and Porco Rosso. Porco Rosso is on of my favorites, but probably best in japanese even though the lead voice is micheal keaton. Aslo pick up Castle in the Sky, that's a classic too.

Princess Mononoke I think was a very well done anime story & animation, But the style or the way that it was drawn reminded me of "Warriors of the Wind" . An old anime that my vcr tape has only a short time to live, are they the same in any manner by the same folks. :?: Speaking of 80`s maybe very early 90`s in that time frame. :).

Miyazaki's first film was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Maybe that's what you ment by Warriors of the Wind and would explain why it looked like Mononoke, anything from Ghibli has that style. Does it look like this:

Could be , the place that they lived was called "The Valley of the wind " In the movie their place was a pradise , compaired to the "toxic jungle ".
I have to some day get the DVD if it is to be found .(If I play this old tape one more time it may be the last).

Not to mention changes in character, the U.S. really tore Nausicaa apart when they first bought the rights; such as as horrible dubbing, change of dialogue, and character changes. This is why Miyazaki is more careful that his art doesn't get destroyed by some greedy network that just wants to dub it down for money, so he made some deals with Disney and had the movie re-released.
As a matter of fact, this sort of thing happens to a lot of wonderful, well animated, theatrical movies. (The Digimon movies come to mind.)
