I am just throwing this out there so don't send me hate mail but am I the only one who thinks Thanksgiving is a bit overrated? I mean you need to get dress up and go someplace, stand around for 3-4 hours then just to get something to eat..

I actually wrote a blog that I posted in a few places:

Amongst all of the bitchin' and crying about our hardships, there's one thing you can be thankful for for Thanksgiving: Happiness lies within us by means of inner peace.

That's right, you don't need a turkey to be happy this holiday...All you need is yourself. No amount of external pleasures are going to make you happy. If you're looking for others for comfort, that's fine, if anything they'll help put you in a good state of mind. However, inner peace can only be achieved from within, not by any other external needs. So when you hear from people that you /need/ to spend money or time with others, just know that that's the road to suffering. Saying that you need external help in order to be happy isn't true. You're only going to be miserable when it ends or is not available to you. You're your ultimate source of happiness, not others or anything else.

So if you're alone or don't have a family to go to for the holiday, cheer up. You don't need them to find inner peace.

......I think it's important to understand that the key to happiness is within us. You don't need a big dinner or even family to be happy; all you need is yourself.

While I do tend to agree with shivermetimbers when he states that all you need for inner peace is yourself, family is nice to have around during the holiday season. I myself just got back from a splendid Thanksgiving dinner; turkey with all the trimmings and I must say that a good part of what made the occasion so enjoyable was the company that was present, namely my family. As far as Thanksgiving being overrated?? I would have to disagree with that notion because if anything I feel that it is Christmas that gets more than its fair share of exposure so to speak. Each year retail outlets all across the land seem to prepare for Christmas at an earlier date than the year before. It is getting so that some outlets go straight from Halloween to Christmas without even stopping to acknowledge Thanksgiving. Just to give an example; there is a commercial strip about 15mins. by car from where I live and they have already put up Christmas street decorations as of three weeks ago. Talk about overexposure SHEESHHH!!

Peace :D
