According to an interview with Don Bluth shortly before NIMH was released: http://www.vanden-eykel.com/nimharchive/articles/ffmtext.htm

BLUTH: Yes, we do, we have another feature, that we're working on. It's budgeted at eleven million. I can't tell you the name of it right now, but I can tell you that it's set in the future and takes place after a nuclear holocaust, when the humans and the animals that remain are trying to put their world back together. We're very excited about it, and will be getting started into production in a couple of months.

...Obviously, it didn't happen, but I really wished it did. I wonder if it would've been targeted to a more adult audience. Maybe it would've even been R rated.

Since the Cold War was still going on during this time, having an animated feature about a nuclear holocaust, especially from an ex-Disney animator would've been really cool.

Now-a-days the nuclear holocaust setting has been done to death. Although I must admit I love the setting. Some of my favorite pieces of media, such as the PC video game "Fallout," have been set in a nuclear holocaust.

Sad that such an idea was scrapped. Instead Bluth took the easy route of more Disney sing along children's crap.

Bluth was working on Anastasia at the time. It was MGM who decided to do the kid-friendly crap for Timmy to the Rescue. Kid-Friendly crap has caused nothing for serious movies except stupid things like Underwear Jokes in Timmy to the Rescue, Greedo Shooting First in Star Wars, not to mention Jar-Jar Binks in Phantom Menace.

Perhaps the NIMH sequel I'm working on should focus on this sort of setting? Like an alternate future? Hmm...

Read the first sentence again....this interview was done before NIMH even came to theaters.

Don Bluth ended up making such classics such as: Rock-O-Doodle, Pebble and the Penguin, and lest we forget...A Troll in Central Park.

A pity that a man who once had his mind set on darker-oriented films ended up doing some of the most childish processed crap ever to curse the theaters.

Sorry about that.

Man, I've got to see Pebble and the Penguin someday.

I was wondering who this Nostalgia Critic guy was. I must admit to not be a big fan of these sort of video blogs that fill themselves with pop culture references. Especially when your comedy mostly consists of making funny faces and screaming really loudly.

I do have one exception: Zero Punctuation. A British guy who talks really fast in similes. I share his opinion on the Silent Hill video game series: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/878-Silent-Hill-2

....Except that he gave that abysmal Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Wii game a positive review for some reason.

The Silent Hill games = Best horror games to date.(Hey, their better than the Resident Evil franchise("STOP IT! Don't open that door!))

I've never played a Resident Evil game to completion, nor do I plan to.

Silent Hill has rocked all the way up to the forth game (although nothing can beat the second game). Once Homecoming came out, things went downhill and Shattered Memories ranks as one of the worst games I've ever played.

What Silent Hill really needs to do is ditch the evil cult crap and focus on character development like number 2 did. I like what they did with the forth game because it didn't take place in Silent Hill and it doesn't have to. The town is simply a "location" where people reveal their innermost fears and that's what Silent Hill should be all about.

Harry Have you seen a little girl?
James Have you seen my wife?
Heather Have you seen a way out of this town?
Henry Have you seen a way out of this room?
Travis Have you seen my truck?
Alex Have you seen my brother?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. lol

Hehe....Silent Hill Downpour actually looks really good. It's focusing more on character development and it's showing a part of the town we haven't seen before. Let's hope it doesn't pull a Shattered Memories and make us go through useless therapy sessions that do nothing to enhance the gameplay outside of stupid cosmetic changes and predicable horror chase sequences that manage to be both easy and frustrating at the same time.

Edit: I guess I can't have a whole post dedicated to a rant of Shattered Memories, so let's sail this ship back to port...Do you think this nuclear film would've been targeted to children, teens or adults? It's not impossible to make a children's film out of a nuclear setting, having a child put in a hostile setting to overcome would be a great idea, especially after making a movie about a timid mother facing impossible odds.

Maybe the MPAA would look at animated films a littler differently than they did with NIMH.
