Hard to believe it was twenty-nine years ago tomorrow that I first saw TSON. In that span of time so much has happened... Where do I begin? As you may well know by now, when I first saw this movie, my spirits were at an extremely low point. That's what being unemployed for apx. one and one half years at the time will do to you. As I recall, the movie did indeed help to improve my mood and lift my spirits some, but unfortunately I was to remain unemployed until October of 1985 which is when I began working for the city of New York in one of their Municipal Agencies. From 1987 to 1995 I owned a sporty, two-seat hatchback which I sold in order to better accomodate my increasing responsibilities (namely tranporting various family members to and fro.) It should be mentioned that one of these family members was and is none other than my niece who was born in October of 1995. I have watched her grow and blossom into a beautiful young lady who in just two years time will be attending the college of her choice. We are all proud of her. Along with the joy that I've had over the years, there has also been some pain and sorrow. For example; There was my Sister's wedding in July of 1993. They've just celebrated their 18th year of marriage. Then there was my bout with diabetes which was quite scary and necessitated a stay in the hospital. Shortly after that we had a family reunion in August of that same year (1998). Ah yes, I can still remember it like it was yesterday. Through it all: Birthdays, Christmas's, Vacations, I have survived and grown stronger during those twenty-nine years since I first laid eyes on Don Bluth's wonderful piece of magic. So here's to 29 years and another 29 more. I can't wait to see what next year has in store.
Peace 8)

Geezus....I must be the youngest guy here. 19 years might as well be 3 weeks for most of you guys, but that's how long I've been on this Earth. It's amazing that after 3 decades someone could remember the first time they saw a certain film and it stuck with them.
NIMH will always be a film that's better than the sum of its parts. I can see how Mrs. Brisby's plight, the animation, the characters, and the score stick with people long after they've seen it.
I was a 7 year old kid addicted to slasher movies and couldn't even pay attention to the film the first time I saw it. The only reason I know about it today is because my girlfriend forced me to watch it. I thought I've never saw it before, but then when the shrew showed up, I remembered that I watched it as a kid. I guess the shrew reminded me of my own mother...I dunno.
In someways, I'm still that 7 year old kid, but my 18 year old self was able to appreciate the film in a way I never expected it to. Admittingly it might be due to the fact that I never expected it a kids film to move me in anyway. It certainly deserves the cult following it gets and I hope eventually it will become a well known classic.

In Aug of 1982 I have just gotten out of 8 years in the military, and never ever seen this classic on the movie screen, in 1984 while working at NASA Drydon at Edwards Flight Test Center, On the way home form work I rented a simple cartoon video, or so I thought.
